D.C. United announced today that midfielder Stephen King was diagnosed with a congenital inguinal hernia and referred for immediate surgery by Dr. Marcelo Kuperschmit at Virginia Hospital Center today.
The University of Maryland product has played in seven games (one start) throughout the 2012 campaign logging 202 minutes and tallying an assist for the Black-and-Red.
King was drafted by the Chicago Fire 40th overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft following a stellar four-year career at the University of Maryland. D.C. United later acquired the midfielder from the Seattle Sounders in early 2010. Since joining D.C. United in 2010, King has played in 47 games (28 starts) while scoring one goal and tallying two assists.
