With Euro 2012 kicking off Friday afternoon, we asked D.C.United’s players which country they were taking in soccer’s biggest event ofthe summer.  Here’s a breakdown ofthe 18 players surveyed:

Spain: 7 votes

(Morsink, Korb, Santos, Najar, Woolard, King, McDonald)

Germany: 6 votes

(Boskovic, DeLeon, White, Dudar, Pontius, Willis)

Holland: 3 votes

(Cruz, Salihi, Rozeboom)

France: 1 vote

(Russell)

Czech Republic: 1 vote

(Hamid)

Notes:

Though Branko Boskovic and Hamdi Salihi picked Germany andHolland respectively, the pair will also be keeping a close eye onCroatia.  They are both goodfriends with Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic, as the trio played together atRapid Vienna.

Robbie Russell took the most time of any D.C. player inpondering which country would become European champions.  After about 45 seconds of deep thought hechose Germany, before shifting course to France because Les Bleus are ‘young’ and ‘hungry’ according to United’s rightback.

Rookie Lance Rozeboom has Dutch heritage, making his pickrather self-explanatory.

Goalkeeper Bill Hamid was originally on the fence between Holland and theCzech Republic.  When told othershad already fancied the Dutch, the eccentric netminder made his final decision.
