D.C. United announced today that midfielder Dwayne De Rosario has been named MLS Player of the Month for August by the North American Soccer Reporters. De Rosario is the first D.C. United player to win this award since Luciano Emilio achieved this honor in June 2008. The Canadian playmaker was also the first player in D.C. United history to win two consecutive MLS Player of the Week awards last month.

Dwayne was named MLS Player of the Week by NASR for Week 21 following his three-goal performance against former club Toronto FC on August 6. The week before that, De Rosario was named Player of the Week for Week 20 for scoring a brace in San Jose, giving United its first win in the Bay Area in 13 years. De Rosario also had an assist on August 13 against Vancouver in a 4-0 home win against Whitecaps FC.

Since arriving at D.C. United, De Rosario has started eight of the nine matches he has played, registering six goals and three assists in 759 minutes of action. The midfielder was acquired on June 27 from the New York Red Bulls in exchange for midfielder Dax McCarty. Prior to joining the Black-and-Red, De Rosario tallied three goals and five assists in 15 games (14 starts) for New York and Toronto FC.

De Rosario is currently training with the Canadian National Team in preparation for 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches against St. Lucia and Puerto Rico.
