After a brief stay in DC following a 10-day Florida preseason camp, D.C. United arrived Monday evening in Phoenix, Ariz. to kick-off the second stage of preseason. While in Arizona, the Black-and-Red will play two scrimmages against Sporting Kansas City and Real Salt Lake.
D.C. United will face Sporting KC on Saturday, February 11 at Grande Sports World in Casa Grande, Ariz. Kick off is set for 12:00 p.m. MST.
United will then face Real Salt Lake on Tuesday, February 14 at the Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix. The match will begin at 10:30 a.m. MST. Both games are open to the public, with updates to be shared via twitter (@DCUmatchday).
United arrived in Phoenix with 26 players, with Dwayne De Rosario joining the team on Tuesday night. United's Designated Player Hamdi Salihi will join his new teammates once his Visa documentation process is finalized.
Trialists Ryan Richter, Seth C’deBaca, Stefan Jerome, Andrew Dykstra and Supplemental Draft pick Lance Rozeboom will continue to train with United. Goalkeeper Josh Lambo is no longer with the team.
The squad officially welcomed Brazilian midfielder Marcelo Saragosa as he joined the team for his first training session as a signed United player.
Midfielder Chris Pontius (tibia fracture) and defender Ethan White (PCL tear) participated in their first full training session today, showing no signs of pain.
Forward Maicon Santos (groin strain) and defender Emiliano Dudar (ankle sprain) continued working with United’s medical staff, and are expected to be ready to return to full training soon.
Veteran forward Josh Wolff continues to recover from a stress fracture injury.
