Branko Boskovic Q&A

Branko Boskovic

What were your thoughts when you heard the team had sign Hamdi?

I was very excited because he's my friend, we played together and now he's coming here, so I'm very happy for him – he's a good guy. He proved himself in the Austrian league, scoring many goals each year. He can help us a lot.

Were you at all involved in his signing? Did you speak to Dave Kasper or Ben Olsen about him?

A little bit. [Ben and Dave] asked me a couple of times about him after watching his highlights, they also asked me about him as a person, and like I said, he's a good guy.

Tell us about your time playing with Hamdi – how long did you two play together and what did you achieve as teammates?
We played one year and a half together, and I have good memories of that time. He's an intelligent player, dangerous in the box, and I hope he continues to score here like he did in the Austrian league. We played in the Europa League together. We played international matches against important teams like Celtic, Hamburg and Hapoel Tel Aviv. We had a good experience in the international competition.
Tell us about Hamdi's style of play – how would you describe him as a player?

He's a great striker, dangerous in the box. He can score with his head, left foot, right foot and he has a really good feeling about where the ball is coming. He also has a great shot – he's a really good modern striker.

How do you see him fitting into D.C. United?

I think he can help us a lot, connecting with DeRo, Wolffie [Josh Wolff], Andy [Najar], and Chris [Pontius] when he comes back. He can serve the ball very well; he's a good passer. He will be very good for the team.

The technical staff and coaches seem to really be focusing on signing players to create depth and competition at every position – what do you think that does for the team?

This is good, it brings a lot of quality to practice and automatically you are going to play a better game. The coaches now have more solutions, when somebody is injured we have someone else who can play at the same level. This is good for our team; if you want to get into the playoffs or win something it's not one game, it's a long season and we need everybody in the team.
