Q&A with Supplemental Draft picks

Rozeboom Rodriguez

On Tuesday, D.C. United selected three collegiate players in the Supplemental Draft - midfielder Lance Rozeboom (2nd round / 26th overall) from the University of New Mexico, defender Charles Rodriguez (3rd round / 45th overall) from UNC Charlotte, and midfielder/forward Matthew Kuhn (4th round / 64th overall) from Drake University. We caught-up with Rozeboom and Rodriguez on the phone after today's draft to talk about their big day.

LANCE ROZEBOOM
What were your thoughts when you found out you had been selected by D.C. United today?

I was very excited to hear that I got picked, and more so to be picked by a club with such great history. It’s a privilege and a blessing, and I feel fortunate to get the opportunity to try and show myself.

How would you describe yourself as a player? What can D.C. United fans expect to see from you on the field?

I’m a hard working player. I normally play in the center of the park. I’m a possession-type player; I look to connect everything and I pride myself on working hard on the field. Hopefully I can bring something to the club.

What are your thoughts as you join the team for preseason and what do you hope to accomplish?

I know I’m getting there a day late and obviously there is going to be a lot of competition. But I’m just hoping to prove myself to the team and the coaching staff, as well as earning respect from those around me.

CHARLES RODRIGUEZ
What were your thoughts when you heard you had been selected by D.C. United in today's draft?

I was speechless. My roommate had to tell me that it happened; I guess I didn’t see my name come up. I was ecstatic and gave him [my roommate] a big hug when I saw my name up there.

How would you describe the way you play? What can D.C. United fans expect to see from you on the field?

I’m a very determined player, as well as very composed. I hate losing – I’m very competitive. I think that is the attitude I can bring to D.C. United.

What are your thoughts as you join the team for preseason and what do you hope to accomplish?

I would like to get in, make a mark in the team, and hopefully make the roster for preseason. Maybe in the future, play a couple of games with the first team.

Matthew Kuhn was not immediately available for an interview.
