While there were only a handful of mid-week games, this week saw women's powerhouse Maryland take on a local foe at the Maryland SoccerPlex. The men's teams begin conference play this weekend, while the Virginia women are hosting their annual Virginia Nike Soccer Classic.

No. 3 Maryland women's soccer powers past American University, 5-1
The No. 3 University of Maryland women's soccer team got two penalty-kick goals and an own goal en route to a 5-1 victory over American at the Maryland SoccerPlex Wednesday night.

Navy men's soccer draws Loyola 3-3 in suspended game
The Navy men’s soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead, then scored a late goal after Loyola, Md., had scored three unanswered tallies to tie the Greyhounds, 3-3, on a rainy Wednesday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Lightning suspended the contest with 6:48 to play, thus making it an official match.

Humphrey's two goals lead Salisbury men's soccer to win at Washington
The Salisbury University men's soccer team had to come from behind on Wednesday night to defeat Eastern Shore-foe Washington College as two unanswered tallies would be the difference in a 2-1 victory.

Salisbury women's soccer and Richard Stockton play to 0-0 draw
The Salisbury University women's soccer team played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer against Richard Stockton College on Wednesday night at Sea Gull Stadium. The two teams earned a hard-fought 0-0 double-overtime tie. The shutout in the contest proved to be the third of the season for the Sea Gulls.

Individual and Team Honors/Notes:

ASA Chesapeake Charge coach Albert Oni, who is also an assistant coach for the Towson Tigers, was named WPSL East Conference Coach of the Year.

Georgetown University sophomore forward Steve Neumann earned a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Tuesday. The Hoyas went 2-1 last week and Neumann scored three goals.

UMBC senior goalkeeper Dan Louisignau was named America East Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.

The Salisbury University men's soccer team is ranked No. 21 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25 Poll.

Salisbury University men's soccer junior Kyle Simmons was named the first CAC Defensive Player of the Week for the 2011 season.

Georgetown senior midfielder Kelly D’Ambrisi is blogging throughout her final soccer season with the Hoyas.


Upcoming Matches:

The No. 2 Maryland men's soccer team kicks off its conference slate with a Friday night match against No. 8 Boston College at 7:30 p.m. at Ludwig Field.

The Virginia men's soccer team begins ACC play at 7 p.m. Friday when it travels to Durham, N.C., to face Duke at Koskinen Stadium. The match is the NSCAA Game of the Week and will be televised to a national audience by FOX Soccer Channel.

The No. 7 Virginia women’s soccer team concludes its non-conference schedule this weekend as it hosts the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic on Friday and Sunday at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers play Washington State on Friday at 7 p.m., and Penn State on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Loyola men's soccer team will host St. Francis in their home opener this Saturday.

The Navy men's soccer team travels up I-97 to take on local rival UMBC on Saturday night, beginning at 7:00 pm in Baltimore.

The Georgetown University women’s soccer team returns home this weekend, hosting a pair of games against James Madison and St. Francis (Pa.).
