D.C. United announced today the club has waived defender Rodrigo Brasesco. In his only season in Washington, the 25-year-old Uruguayan made three MLS appearances (two starts), registering 155 minutes of play. Brasesco originally signed with the Black-and-Red on January 10, 2011 on loan from Racing Club of the Uruguayan Primera Division.

“We would like to thank Rodrigo for his contributions to D.C. United and we wish him well in the future,” said United General Manager Dave Kasper.

Prior to his time with United, Brasesco featured prominently for his hometown club Racing. During the 2009-2010 campaign, Brasesco appeared in 24 matches (23 starts) in 2,106 minutes of play in the Uruguayan Primera Division.

The defender also featured in the 2010 Copa Libertadores, South America’s premier club football competition. In this tournament, Brasesco played in every Copa Libertadores match, helping Racing advance out of the qualifying rounds and into the group stage against clubs like Brazil’s Corinthians and Independiente Medellin of Colombia. In total Brasesco played in eight Copa Libertadores matches.

Prior to joining Racing Club in 2008, Brasesco advanced through the ranks of Uruguayan Second Division side Institución Atlética Sud América. From 2004 through 2008 Brasesco played for the small Montevideo club.
