Tenth Annual United Celebrity Golf Tournament set for June 20, 2011

United for D.C., thenon-profit arm of D.C. United, announced today details of the Tenth AnnualUnited Celebrity Golf Tournament, presented by Geico.  Golfers will gather at 1757 Golf Club in Dulles, Virginiafor a 1:30 p.m. ET shotgun start on Monday, June 20. Participants in thisyear’s event will play alongside current and former United players and coachesas well as a host of other local and national sports and media celebrities, allwhile raising money for United for D.C. Those interested in playing may still register at www.dcunited.com/golf.  


Confirmed celebrities forthe event include MLS Commissioner, Don Garber, as well as Kathy Carter, President of Soccer United Marketing(SUM), MLS’ commercial subsidiary. In addition, former Redskin great, KenHarvey and U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder, DaMarcus Beasley have joinedthe guest list.  Local Fox 5personality, Steve Cheveney and former D.C. United player AJ Wood will also bein attendance to help United for D.C. raise money to provide resources toat-risk and underserved youth. 


Companies and otherorganizations have the opportunity to join forces with United for D.C. as asponsor of this event, as well. Remaining sponsorship opportunities include: presenting sponsor at$6,000, all-hole sponsor at $4,000, and one-hole sponsor $2,000.  To play in the tournament, the cost is$1,000 for a foursome with a celebrity, $750 per playing foursome, and $250 foran individual. The tournament is limited to 36 foursomes.  All pricing includes lunch and dinner,beverages, green fees, cart usage, and prizes.

All proceeds from the event willgo to benefit United for D.C., which was established by D.C. United as a 501(c) 3 organization in 2002. The non-profit has three signature programs: UnitedReads which encourages a love for reading and healthy lifestyles in six localpublic schools; Kicks for Kids, which provides the game-day experience tothousands of at-risk and under-served youth each season; and United SoccerClub, which provides free after-school soccer programming to disadvantagedurban children throughout the greater D.C. area.
