WAGS Third Weekend Report

WAGS

While the majority of the area's Washington Area Girls Soccer League games were canceled this weekend due to the impressive thunderstorms that came up from the south on Saturday, some teams managed to squeeze games in before the deluge hit.

High School Divisions

In High School Division 1, McLean Fusion won both of their matches against the Crofton Wolves and FC Virginia Courage. The two wins leave them undefeated this season, and all the rest of the squads will be hard-pressed to catch up in points.

No games were played in Division 2 or Under-19 Division 3.

U-19 Division 4 saw four matches on Sunday, with the Calverton Tornadoes tying SAC United Premier Azzuri 1-1, and SAC United I Lady Diplomats and DCST Blast also drawing, but 0-0. SMU Furies beat the FWAS Mustangs 4-0, and SYC Spirit dominated SEVP Flame 7-0. The Spirit, Tornadoes, Azzuri and Furies all sit on top of the board tied on seven points.

Division 1s

Only one game was contested in U-14 Division 1, and the Sunday morning match saw FASA Elite Impact defeating CYA Chaos 1-0. The win pushed the Impact into a four-way tie for first with Loudoun 96G Red, Bethesda Eintract, and Freestate Storm, all on four points.

The U-13s had a much busier weekend, with three matches played on Sunday. PWSI Courage Red still remains on top of this leaderboard with 5 points, but with only a handful of matches played thus far, the competition is still wide open.

The 'match of the weekend' title falls to the U-12 Division 1 match between VSA Heat and the Bethesda Academy 98s. Playing on the turf at Long Park in Haymarket, Va., the Heat managed to squeak out a barnstorming 5-4 win over Bethesda, which gives them a solid 10 points in the division and the current lead.

U-14

Division 2 remains wide open in the U-14 age group, with two teams, SYA FCV and MSC Elite, tied for first with four points. Only one match was played this weekend, with SYA FCV defeating FC Frederick 1-0 on Sunday.

In Division 3, the only contest was between the Stafford Revolution Blue and the FASA Premier Impact squads, with the Revolution Blue coming out with a 2-0 win. Stafford lead the division with seven points, but TSC Thunder Extreme and the SSA Hornets are close behind with six points each.
