Blake Brettschneider - 2011 preseason - DL

MATCH SUMMARY

D.C. United's Reserves continued the 2011 MLS Reserve League season with 4-1 win over against the New England Revolution on Saturday, March 26 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Following the first team's 2-1 loss to the Revs on Saturday afternoon, the Black-and-Red Reserves took the field immediately following the final whistle and continued their strong form from last Sunday against Columbus. United is now 2-0-0 in MLS Reserve League action.

Despite an early Revolution goal from Ilija Stolica in the first minute of play, the Black-and-Red were steady throughout the contest and dominated possession. Midfielder Stephen King slotted Branko Boskovic through on goal in the 18th minute, with the Montengrin finishing cleanly past Revolution goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth.

Boskovic played the role of distributer during the run of play for United's next two strikes, feeding rookie standout Blake Brettschneider on both occasions. The first of these two goals came via a cutting through ball that slipped behind New England's defense, allowing Brettschneider to strike with his first touch. United's third goal of the contest also came from open play, with Boksovic's pass finding Brettschneider in space for a simple finish.

Said Brettschneider of his two-goal performance, "Personally I thought it was a good game. We tried to keep it simple and I used the support that our midfield provided. Obviously we finished pretty well tonight, but we made some good runs and found ways to create chances and finish them."

U-18 forward Marcus Salandy Defour added the exclamation point in the 69th minute, as the Black-and-Red knocked the ball around inside New England's area, with Stephen King finally squaring a cross for the 17-year-old. Salandy-Defour took the chance to bury a strong shot into the Revolution's net.
