MLS to conduct three player lotteries in five days

NEW YORK – Three lucky MLS clubs will land highly ratedprospects just in time for preseason as three separate weighted player lotteriesdetermine the fate of Cody Arnoux (pictured above), Chris Agorsor and Korey Veeder.


The league uses the lottery mechanism for: 1) players whohave completed their college eligibility and sign after the SuperDraft; 2) underclassmenwho sign Generation adidas contracts after the SuperDraft; and 3) playerswho were previously offered MLS contracts and did not sign.


The lotteries will take place over the next five days,beginning with the Arnoux lottery Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET. The Agorsor lottery istentatively scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET on Monday, Feb. 14, while Veeder will find out hisMLS club at the same time on Feb. 15.


Each MLS club has the option of withdrawing fromparticipation in each lottery. The teams' percentage chances, which are calculated bytaking into account a team’s record over its last 30 regular season games, willbe adjusted ahead of each of the three lotteries based on the number of teams that participate.


The San Jose Earthquakes landed goalkeeper David Bingham inthe first lottery of the year and are automatically precluded fromparticipating in future lotteries during the MLS season.
