D.C. United fan and photographer Matt Mathai has taken hundreds of photos of the team and Jamie Moreno, so we asked him to share some of his favorites.
"I first saw Jaime Moreno in June of 1996 when Bolivia played the USA in the US Cup competition at RFK stadium. From midfield he streaked down the sideline past the entire US team and beat Friedel at the near post. I remember being stunned and thinking 'this guy is a star!'
He joined DC United in 1996 halfway through the season and has been scoring goals for us ever since. We would not have won our championships without him. He embodies what I think about DC United. He plays with skill, grace, passion, and class. I'm sorry to see him leave, but anyone who lucky enough to watch a DC United match in the last 15 years will remember Jaime for a long, long time.
I have lots of action pictures of Jaime that I've shot since 2005, but I like these the most because they show a side of him that you don’t see on TV."
