MLS to hold moment of silence for 9/11

NEW YORK – Major League Soccer will join the rest of the nation this weekend in remembering the victims of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

A moment of silence will be held before the national anthem at each of the MLS matches played this weekend.

The league canceled the remainder of the regular season in 2001 following the tragic events of Sept. 11 and MLS has paid homage to the victims of the attacks in each of the last nine years.

A total of five MLS matches will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, including matches in New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Jose and Toronto.
