Washington, D.C. (July 15,2010) – D.C. United announced today defender Bryan Namoff has suspended hisplaying career and will join the technical staff as Special ProjectsManager. A 10-year veteran of the Black-and-Red, Namoff moves into a newrole with United, assisting General Manager Dave Kasper with scouting, youthdevelopment and camp programming. He will also assist the front office inother business development opportunities. The defender will be availablefor media comment at 6:00 p.m. ET field-side prior to tonight’s MLS contestwith Seattle Sounders FC.
Namoff has been an important member of United’s backline since 2001, recording 16,045 minutes on the pitch, notching four goals and16 assists. He also passed Marco Etcheverry for third place all-time inUnited’s record book with 195 games played. During the 2009 season, Namoffstarted in all 26 League games he played and was off the field for only 14minutes.
Last year, the defender contributed two goals toUnited’s attack – both game-winners. His strike against Colorado on July 18earned him Goal of the Week honors. He was one of the most consistent playersduring the season, playing 33 games, starting all but one match in allcompetitions.
Before joining United, Namoff led the BradleyUniversity Braves to two consecutive Missouri Valley Conference finals, andtheir first NCAA Tournament appearance. He was named to theAll-Midwest Region First Team and All-MVC First Team. He was also named BradleyScholar Athlete of the Week on three different occasions. He finished hisfour-year college career with 32 goals and 17 assists for 81 points, second-mostall-time at Bradley.
In 2007, Namoff made his debut on the U.S. Men’sNational Team, entering as a substitute in the 63rd minute in a 3-1win against Denmark on Janurary 20.
