United Academy posts winning record over PA Classics and FC Delco

D.C. United’s Youth Academy sides continued their collective success in Divisional matches over the weekend, as the Black-and-Red posted a 3-0-1 record at the Maryland Soccerplex. On Saturday, May 8 United’s U-16’s defeated PA Classics 1-0 behind a Brad Vorv strike. In the other match the U-18’s captured a late equalizer through Conor Shanoksy, as Desean Ragland fired home the winner to seal a 2-1 result over PA Classics.

On Sunday, May 9 United returned to Soccerplex to face FC Delco. The U-16’s triumphed once again, this time by an emphatic 5-0 scoreline. Cody Albrecht scored a brace, as Collin Martin registered a strike alongside Vorv and Dario Redondo. The U-18’s fought hard in their own match, with Michael Funes scoring the side’s only goal in a 1-1 draw to round out the weekend action.

Said United U-16 Head Coach Roberto Da Silva, “We played well on Saturday and even better on Sunday. I was pleased with the way we defended in both games, refusing to allow any goals.” U-18 Head Coach Judah Cooks added, “We played very well against two very good clubs. We have to improve on scoring chances and to learn how to close out games, but we are moving in the right direction.”
