United Drives to collect coats during October

WASHINGTON, DC (September 30, 2009) - D.C. United announced today plans to continue the 2009 season of United Drives by collecting coats before the team’s home matches against Chivas USA on Oct. 3 and the Columbus Crew on Oct. 17. All items collected at the game will benefit Mission of Love.

Mission of Love Charities is a multifaceted health and human services organization dedicated to helping the underserved and misfortunate by providing free programs and services designed to meet their immediate and short-term needs. Mission of Love is committed to addressing basic human needs by equipping people with the tools for long-term stability and growth.

Fans will have the chance to stuff their donations into a special collection bin, a Volkswagen Routan. The Routan will be located outside RFK Stadium’s Gate A and will be open from two hours prior to the game until 15 minutes after kick-off. Donations are also accepted in the D.C. United offices, located on the fourth floor of Gate A. Fans who donate an item will receive a “Buy One, Get One Free” ticket voucher, redeemable for any remaining 2009 regular season home game.

Thanks to generous donations from fans, D.C. United was able to benefit nine local non-profit organizations by providing them with items to help with their missions, including children’s books, baby essentials, food, toys, soccer equipment, school supplies, toiletries and coats. Each month during the 2009 Major League Soccer season, D.C. United collected items at every home game to benefit pre-determined non-profit organizations within the Washington, D.C. area. This season marks the seventh year of the United Drives campaign.
