Washington, D.C. (September 16, 2009) - D.C. United and its charitable arm, United for D.C., today announced a partnership with Dick’s Sporting Goods for a special “Shop with a Player” experience. Approximately 25 youth from United for D.C.’s United Soccer Club will have a chance to be paired up with a D.C. United player and buy soccer equipment as well as back to school gear at Dick’s Sporting Goods on Tuesday, September 22.
“We are very excited about being able to partner with Dick’s Sporting Goods and participate in the Shop With a Player experience again this season” said United for D.C. Foundation Manager Kate Larned. “This is a highly rewarding opportunity for the kids, not only because of the wonderful new items they will bring home but also because of the quality time they get to spend with the players.”
Participants for this event were chosen from United Soccer Club’s THEARC site and will each receive a $100 gift card to the Bailey’s Crossroads location of Dick’s Sporting Goods. In addition, Papa John’s will provide a pizza party before the shopping event for the kids and players.
Founded in 2002, United for D.C. serves youth and families with a focus on literacy and healthy lifestyles. Through the Kicks for Kids program, more than 7,000 underprivileged children will have an opportunity to watch United play this season alone. United Reads, currently presented in six DC elementary schools, distributed nearly 8,000 books during player visits throughout the spring and will continue in the fall. The United Soccer Club is an after-school soccer program, which teaches fundamental skills and hosts games and scrimmages in sten sites throughout Washington, D.C.
