D.C. United to host fourth annual Latin American Festival

Washington, D.C. (September 3, 2009) - D.C. United and the club’s Hispanic Advisory Committee announced plans to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting the fourth annual Latin American Festival presented by RCN before the Black-and-Red’s game against Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m. at RFK Stadium. The pre-game fiesta will commence at 4:00 p.m. in Lot 8 of RFK and will remain open until kickoff.

“I want to thank all the members of our Hispanic Advisory Committee for their time and dedication in helping us put on this event,” said United President and CEO Kevin Payne. “D.C. United is proud of the deep and rich history of support developed within the local Hispanic community. As a kick off celebration to Hispanic Heritage Month, we are honored to pay tribute to these faithful fans and the Hispanic culture they represent”.

The event will give fans a great opportunity to celebrate the culture, music, cuisine and sport of Latin America. The festival is open to the public and will feature live music from La Máquina de El Salvador, Brazilian drum band Batala, local band Zeniza All Star and a salsa dance show. In addition, Fernando Fiore, the main host of Univision’s popular weekly sports show “República Deportiva” (Sports Republic) and two “Senadora” models, Alba Galindo and Natalia Saenz, will be making a special appearance. The Consulates of El Salvador and Bolivia will also be on site with mobile units providing information and consular services to its fellow citizens.

The event will also highlight United’s induction ceremonies for former forward Raúl Díaz Arce and former team broadcaster Danilo Noel Dirón to the club’s Hall of Tradition. In addition, the team and the Hispanic Advisory Committee will honor Reverend José Eugenio Hoyos for his 25-year service to the Latino community in the Washington metropolitan area. Hoyos, a native of Colombia, is the director of the Spanish Apostolate for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Arlington, VA.
