Jaime Moreno earns MLS Goal of the Week honors

Washington, D.C. (May 6, 2009) - Major League Soccer announced today D.C. United’s Jaime Moreno is this week’s MLS Goal of the Week winner. The winning tally was the second of two for the legendary striker who also won MLS Player of the Week honors for his efforts against FC Dallas. Moreno accepted a slick pass from Christian Gomez in the 66th minute Saturday night, took a forward touch on the ball, and lifted a clever chip over onrushing goalkeeper Ray Burse.

Moreno, the League’s all-time leading goal-scorer (124), has two goals and an assist in four games played this season. Prior to Saturday’s match, United’s captain was honored for being the first player in the MLS to score 100 goals and tally 100 assists. He joined the ‘100-100 club’ after recording an assist in United’s 1-1 tie against New England April 17. Moreno also has 74 career appearances and 11 goals for the Bolivia national team.

D.C. United is currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak in all competitions and stands tied for first place in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference standings. United is unbeaten at home so far this season and will look to keep that streak going next Saturday as they host Toronto FC at 7:30 p.m. ET. The club will first turn its attention to Kansas City tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET.
