D.C. United acquires John DiRaimondo

Washington, D.C. (March 27, 2009) - D.C. United announced today that it acquired the rights to midfielder John DiRaimondo through the waiver draft. DiRaimondo was most recently with the Colorado Rapids, spending two seasons with the club, before being released on March 25, 2009.


DiRaimondo originally joined Major League Soccer when the Rapids drafted him in the 2007 Supplemental Draft. He made his Rapids debut on March 29, 2008, making a total of 11 appearances for Colorado and scoring one goal. Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, DiRaimondo played four seasons of collegiate soccer at the University of St. Louis. There, he was named to the NSCAA All-American third team and finished as a Hermann Trophy semifinalist during his junior and senior years. He also played for the Chicago Fire Premier PDL side, was selected to the U.S. U17 National Team to play at the U17 World Championship and played with the U20 National team in 2004.
