We'll shortly announce via press release that we'll begin defense of our 2008 U.S. Open Cup championship with a play-in game versus FC Dallas on Wednesday, April 22 at RFK Stadium. Yes, you read that correctly - a play-in game. The reigning champs aren't given any passes, that's for sure.
The game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET and serve as Special Game A for half and full season ticket holders. Call your ticket rep for more info. Tickets for the general public will go on sale soon - we'll keep you updated.
Since Major League Soccer began playing in the tournament in 1996, no team has repeated as champs. United almost did, though - after winning its first Open Cup title in 1996, the team fell to the Dallas Burn on penalties (5-3) in the final in '97. Darn.
Might this be a year for a repeat?
