D.C. United announces details for 2009 Kick-off Luncheon

Washington, D.C. (February 24, 2009) – D.C. United and its charitable arm, United for D.C., announced today the Annual Kick-off Luncheon will take place on Tuesday, March 24 at 12:00 p.m. The seventh annual event is a fundraiser for United’s 501(c)3 foundation and will be held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center at the National Harbor. Fans will have the opportunity to meet the Black-and-Red’s players and coaches while supporting the club’s community initiatives.

Presenting and supporting sponsorships, which allow for recognition on all future press releases, website postings, e-newsletter communication pieces and luncheon materials, are currently available for $5,000 and $3,000 respectively. Each sponsorship includes a table at the luncheon for nine attendees, who will be paired with a player or coach.

Additionally, tables are available for $1,000 each, which allows for nine individuals to sit with a player or coach during the event. Individual spots are available for $150 per person. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed under the law. United for D.C. will also host a silent auction with items from D.C. United, other teams across Major League Soccer and other sports teams and places of business.

For more information on the Seventh Annual Kick-off Luncheon, please call Kate Larned at 202-587-5463 or email her at klarned@dcunited.com.

All proceeds from the event will go to benefit United for D.C., which was established by D.C. United as a 501 (c) 3 organization in 2002. The non-profit has three signature programs: United Reads which supports childhood literacy in seven local public schools; Kicks for Kids which provides the game-day experience to thousands of inner-city, under-served youth each season; and United Soccer Club which was developed after a request from Ward 8 families for meaningful after school opportunities to play organized soccer. D.C. United's Major League Soccer season kicks off on Sunday, March 22, when the team travels to Los Angeles to take on the Galaxy. The team's first home game is on March 28, when the Chicago Fire visit RFK Stadium. Tickets for United’s home opener are now available as part of full season, half season and flex ticket plans via dcunited.com.

Broadcasting and P.A. Request: When speaking of the organization, please refer to the team as either “D.C. United” or “United,” but not “the D.C. United” or “the United.” We appreciate your cooperation.
