Anthony Peters on trial

Centerback Anthony Peters has joined the team on trial in Puerto Rico.

The towering Peters was born in Baton Rouge, Louisana and played for two seasons at the University of Kentucky (2002-04), before exploring opportunities in Norway and Iceland.  He returned stateside and played the last two years at West Virginia Wesleyan College.  This past fall he was named as the WVIAC Player of the Year - after totaling seven goals and two assists - and to the NSCAA/Adidas Atlantic Region All-American First Team.

Though he played primarily as a midfielder and forward in college, he played as a defender last summer on PDL side Baton Rouge Capitals.  He stands at 6-5, and weighs 205 pounds.  He is not small.  He was born October 24, 1983.

Peters was in training camp with the Crew recently and, in fact, played against United in the two team's scrimmage on Feb. 10.  The big fella created two of the Crew's best chances to score during the game, connecting on two solid headers off of corner kicks in the first half.

I would expect Peters might see the field at some point during tonight's game...
