D.C. United Academy Update: February 19, 2009

Season Restart: D.C. United’s U16 and U18 sides both restarted their 2009 Development Academy season in a positive fashion over the past weekend, coming away undefeated in four matches. The squad managed two wins against FC Westchester and two against Met Oval at the Germantown Soccer Plex on Saturday, Feb 14 and Sunday, Feb 15.

"Very good effort from both teams as we start this 2009 year. We have a very good idea about the things we want to continue working on and look forward to seeing our players progress," said John Maessner, United Director of Youth Development.

The U18s defeated FC Westchester 2-0, with goals coming from Peabo Doue and Sean Murnane on Saturday. They followed that performance with a convincing 4-0 win against Met Oval on Sunday, with Shane Cooke, Doue, Murnane, and Chris Perez, contributing the goals.

"Great start coming out of winter break. Against two strong teams Scoring 6 and conceding 0 speaks for itself. We will try to gain confidence from this start and push forward," said Judah Cooks, the U18 Head Coach.

The U16 side dispatched FC Westchester 3-1 on Saturday and Met Oval 1-0 on Sunday to complete United’s unbeaten weekend.

"Two very satisfactory, dominant performances for our U16s this weekend were borne out of a strong couple of weeks of hard work on the training ground. Credit has to go to the players for their application and focus over what has been a very demanding preparation period since our return from the winter break," said Richie Burke, United’s U16 Head Coach.

The season continues this weekend in Pennsylvania, as the team will travel up north to play FC Delco and PA Classics on Feb 21 and 22.
