We just officially announced that we've signed midfielder Andrew Jacobson (pending receipt of his international transfer certificate). We originally picked him in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft in the second round (24th overall), but he decided to test the waters abroad and eventually signed with Lorient in France. After a season there, he decided he wanted to be back in the states and joined the team in D.C. for the start of pre-season.
“We are excited that Andrew is on board at D.C. United,” said United General Manager Dave Kasper of Jacobson. “He is a versatile two-way midfielder that has great technical ability and his size and work rate afford our team several options within the midfield.”
He played 49 minutes in last week's game against Vejle in a defensive midfield role and played 38 minutes in this morning's 2-1 win over Columbus, before leaving with a slight hamstring strain.
