With a team made up almost entirely of trialists, United fell 4-1 to Vejle Boldklub of Denmark this afternoon at IMG Academy. On just his second day with the team, Ange N'Silu scored the Black-and-Red's lone goal. Three of Vejle's four goals came in the first half, as the two team's played to a 1-1 draw in the second stanza.
Vejle's first goal came in the 18th minute when their forward collected the ball deep in the right corner and turned towards net. With two teammates waiting on the back post, he sent a ball towards the back stick that sailed over the head of goalkeeper Milos Kocic and snuck into the back of the net.
In the 33rd minute, a loose ball was collected near the half by a Vejle midfielder, who then sprayed it wide left to a sprinting forward. The forward hit a first-time cross into the box, where the club's other front-runner struck the ball with his first touch into the lower left corner of the goal, just past an outstretched Kocic.
Vejle's third goal of the half came in the 44th minute when a turnover at midfield put United on its' heels. The quick counterattack put a forward behind the defense and in alone on Kocic. The goalkeeper came off his line and managed to get a part of his body on the shot as he fell to the ground, slowing the ball down, but the forward continued his run behind Kocic and finished with ease from a few yards.
With significant changes made during halftime, United came out and got a goal back in the 49th minute. Boyzzz Khumalo collected a pass deep in the right corner from Chris Pontius and sent a diagonal cross from the end line through the box. N'Silu corralled the ball with his first touch, turned towards the goal and struck a low shot with his right foot that snuck past the goalkeeper and into the lower right corner of the net.
The game's final tally came just ten minutes from the final whistle when a ball over the top found the foot of a Vejle forward, who turned and struck a ball from a tough angle on the right side of the field that slipped past goalkeeper James Thorpe.
