D.C. United Academy announces 2009 camp schedule

Washington, D.C. (February 3, 2009) – The D.C. United Academy announced its 2009 Summer Academy schedule today. The Summer Academy offers a variety of training opportunities tailored to provide a fun and rewarding experience, while encouraging players to develop their full potential. The 12-camp schedule includes locations in Virginia, Maryland and D.C., with more dates to be added in Virginia and Maryland.

D.C. United’s Summer Academy campers are grouped by age and/or ability, in order that each child receives the maximum contact possible from the coaching staff and to ensure a positive learning experience. Under the guidance of D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper and Youth Development Director John Maessner, age-specific training programs have been created to foster proper technical development and provide a better understanding of the game’s overall tactics.

A variety of camp options include the following: Elite Academy (an intense week of training for the potential Division I soccer player 9-16 years old with competitive playing experience), High School Preseason Activity (specifically designed to maximize preparation for the 2009-10 high school season), Full-Day Academy (open to all abilities, ages 8-14), Half-Day Academy (open to all abilities, ages 5-14) and the Striker/Goalkeeper camp (ages 8-14).

All Academy programs feature first-class instruction from United’s technical staff and players, former professional players and top area coaches. The high school camps will also feature guest instruction from top local college programs. In addition, all participants will receive an official D.C. United Academy ball and t-shirt, a ticket voucher for any 2009 D.C. United regular season home game (with the exception of the Los Angeles Galaxy match) and membership to D.C. United’s Youth Fan Club. Other opportunities may arise, as many current United academy players have been discovered in the camps.

Fees of the Academy are $265 per player for the full-day and striker/goalkeeper camps, $295 for the elite camps, and $175 for the half-day experience and high school camp. Enrollment is limited and a special discount is available for team or family enrollment.
