Washington, D.C. (January 16, 2009) – D.C. United announced today its participation in the Virginia Youth Soccer Association Workshop on January 23-24. The workshop, held at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va., will kick off with a coaching clinic presentation by United Head Coach Tom Soehn from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by a welcome reception. As part of the reception, United will do a special video presentation documenting its 2009 Youth Soccer Group Activities.
The workshop will also feature interactive games such as Soccer Tennis, and booths for United ticket information, merchandise, and the D.C. United Youth Academy Camps. All adidas merchandise at the United booths will be 50 percent off and there will be special door prizes and giveaways throughout the two days. Additionally, two D.C. United players will stop by the workshop on Saturday and sign autographs from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. and from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. ET.
United’s participation will continue on Saturday afternoon, with former Black-and-Red midfielder Judah Cooks leading a seminar on the development of soccer players, using his experiences going from the youth level to professional.
Former D.C. United and U.S. Men’s National Team defender Jeff Agoos will be honored as part of the workshop’s Awards Luncheon, where he will be inducted into the Virginia D.C. Soccer Hall of Fame. Agoos, who was recently elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame, was a member of United from 1996-2000, appearing in 135 matches and scoring six goals.
