Carey Talley

MLS EXPERIENCE

2008-2010: A twelve-year veteran of Major League Soccer, Carey Talley returns to the club where his career began in time for the start of the 2010 campaign. Prior to rejoining the Black-and-Red, Talley spent the last two seasons in Los Angeles with Chivas USA. In his first season with Chivas, Talley played in 16 matches (15 starts). In 2009 the right back played in 27 matches, starting every fixture, and he even managed to register a lone assist.

2006-2008: Talley enjoyed a prolific stay with Real Salt Lake beginning in 2006. That season he racked up 2,618 minutes in 30 appearances (all starts) for the Western Conference side. Talley managed to get forward quite a bit in this campaign, contributing 8 assists to the cause. 2007 was also productive for the defender, as he finished third on Real Salt Lake in games played (26), starts (25), and goals (tied with 3), and made his 250th appearance in MLS regular season play on Oct. 6 against Chivas USA.

2004-2005: Following a trade to FC Dallas at the beginning of the 2004 campaign, Talley played in 43 games (33 starts) and recorded four assists in his two seasons with the Texas club.

2002-2003: Before the start of the 2002 season, Talley was traded to Kansas City, where he appeared in 44 matches (32 starts) in his two seasons with the Wizards.

1998-2001: Tally began his productive career in Washington, where he was selected by D.C. United in the College Draft. He started 16 of United’s final 18 matches in all competitions that year, and played in five playoff games. The following year Talley was a regular for United, scoring four goals and starting all playoff games during the Black-and-Red’s successful MLS Cup campaign. In 2000, Talley started 28 of United’s 29 matches as he scored three goals and recorded an assist for the Black-and-Red. In his final season with United in 2001, the defender added two goals and three assists in 20 games played (22 starts).

COLLEGE EXPERIENCE

1994-1997: In four years at the University of North Carolina, Talley played in all but one match, missing that particular game via suspension. In 75 matches for the Tar Heels, Talley notched 26 goals and 22 assists, earning the rising star Third Team All-American honors following his sophomore and senior seasons.
