Training Notes: May 14, 2014
After an open training session at Long Bridge Park in Arlington, Va., Tuesday afternoon, the team returned to the RFK training field in preparation for the Montreal Impact, who visit this Saturday (7:00 p.m. BUY TICKETS). As usual, the team begins with the lively 5v2 keep away which then turned into stretching and a circuit warmup.
The team was divided into three groups. At one station guys dribbled in and out of cones, one was explosive acceleration and the last was standing jumps over hurdles before running to win a header. After a quick water break, they moved to a passing drill. Three squares were on the field, and players had to pass first diagonally, then horizontally around the square. The drill started with three touch, and eventually worked its way down to two and then one.
Once all three phases were complete, the teams were split into two large groups for a very competitive game of possession. With multiple neutrals in the mix, the sides played several 10 minute games.
To finish the day, the team scrimmaged the D.C. United U-23 team in an 11 vs. 11 full field game. The Black-and-Red defeated the U-23s in the scrimmage with the lone goal coming from Michael Seaton. The Homegrown forward beat his man down the right line and struck a rocket into the bottom left corner of the net. Almost doubling the score, Conor Doyle got on the end of a Kyle Porter corner, but his header bounced off the crossbar and right to the defense.
Upon returning to RFK, the team got in a weight session and hit the road. The team will train twice more at the RFK training field before taking on Montreal Impact on Saturday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
