D.C. United Academy Update: April 9, 2014
The D.C. United U-14s were the only academy team in action this weekend as they took on the Richmond Kickers on Saturday, April 5.
The U-14s defeated the Richmond Kickers 2-0 this Saturday after losing to them 1-0 earlier in the season. The Black-and-Red went up 1-0 in the 18th minute after an own goal by the Kickers. SahrFelix Sandy (Woodbridge, Va.; Prince William Soccer Inc.) added the second and final goal in the 58th minute to give United the 2-0 win.
“I thought we had a very good first half and we were able to dictate the flow of the match from the beginning,” said D.C. United U-14 Head Coach Jonathan Frias. “Our back line dealt with counter attacks very well, and we were balanced in our attack. We created numerous chances in the match and were able to capitalize at the right moments.”
D.C. United U-14 Man of the Match—Luke Campbell
“Luke had a very good game. He completely commanded our back line,” said Frias. “We were able to deal with counter attacks because of our organization in the back and he was pretty clean in his distribution to start our build-up.”
