Spotlight: Lewis Neal

Neal nets the game-winning goal in USOC Final

Last night, Lewis Neal found the back of the net in the 45th minute of the U.S. Open Cup Final, helping D.C. United add its 13th trophy to the case. The talented midfielder has spent the majority of this season recovering from surgery and has just recently found his form. After Perry Kitchen calmly broke pressure in the midfield, he sprung John Thorrington wide, who took on an RSL defender and got off a cross. Neal, whose run took him to the penalty spot, read the bounce off a deflection and finished into the side netting.

While D.C. United celebrated near the Black-and-Red traveling supporters, Rio Tinto fell silent, disappointed and in shock. DCU held on with incredible defending and an undying will to win. Congratulations to Lewis Neal and D.C. United on finding a way to win a championship in a rough season. The team, organization and fans earned this one.

Make sure to watch Campeones to relive the magic of the Cup and watch the celebration on the field and in the locker room.

Come out to RFK and celebrate on Friday night as D.C. United takes on the Chicago Fire. Buy tickets here.
