Wednesday Training Notes

Ruiz Returns; Open Cup Updates; Pontius, Porter and White make progress

On this warm June morning, D.C. United took to the training field to prepare for Saturday’s battle against San Jose here at RFK. The Black-and-Red started with agility and fitness before moving onto a possession drill. Then, the squad split into three teams—while two scrimmaged, the third ran sprints on the side.

Ruiz Returns

Carlos Ruiz is back in D.C. The veteran forward has returned from his time with the Guatemalan National Team and joined the Black-and-Red on the training pitch today. Ruiz didn’t feature for his country, but Guatemala dropped the friendly against Argentina 4-0.

Pontius, Porter and White Make Progress

Midfielder Chris Pontius, Midfielder Kyle Porter and Defender Ethan White enjoyed a full training session today. The three usual-starters missed Saturday’s match against Toronto FC due to injuries, but all three appear to be progressing well.

D.C. United in the Open Cup

Next Wednesday, DCU takes on the New England Revolution in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals at the Maryland SoccerPlex at 7 p.m. Today, U.S. Soccer will do a coin flip to see which winning teams will host the semifinal round. Join the Black-and-Red at the SoccerPlex on June 26 as the squad works toward advancing to the semifinal round of the USOC.
