VW Keys to the Match: D.C. United's game-plan for tonight's match against the New England Revolution

Red-Hot Rowe; They Want the Cup; Match the Revs Intensity

D.C. United looks to continue its success in the U.S. Open Cup tomorrow night against the New England Revolution at 7 p.m. ET at the Maryland Soccer Plex. The Black-and-Red is coming off a big win at home, beating San Jose 1-0 and snapping a 13-game winless streak. With momentum shifting D.C.'s way, United will look to win another hard-fought battle and advance into the Semifinal Round of the USOC.

Red-Hot Rowe

21-year-old midfielder Kelyn Rowe seems to catch fire in Open Cup matches, netting five goals in three tournament games. Rowe found the back of the net twice against the Red Bulls in the Fourth Round, striking both from outside the box. The D.C. United backline will have to make sure to close Rowe down quickly, while cutting off his angle to goal.

They Want the Cup

Playing at the SoccerPlex is not only home-field advantage for DCU, but the intimate atmosphere provides intense support from fans who are seated closer to the field than at RFK. Last game, the fans spoke up and told their team, “We Want the Cup!” The Black-and-Red delivered a win to its supporters who made the trip out to Boyds, Md., and with the encouragement of all who support DCU, plan to deliver another win tonight.

Match New England’s Intensity

In MLS play, New England hit a hot streak at the beginning of June, which included beating the LA Galaxy 5-0— but the spell was ended by the Black-and-Red when the squad traveled north and held the Revs to a 0-0 tie. With this game in the back of players’ minds, and its recent success in Open Cup, the Revs will come out with high intensity. It is pivotal United matches the Revs energy and fire for however long it takes to grab that W.
