Tuesday Training Notes

Shanosky earns first start; Brand the Brew; Nyassi to face former team

D.C. United hit the training field on this warm June morning after a 2-0 loss to Chicago on the road. The Black-and-Red warmed up, then those who logged big minutes broke off to do regeneration on the sideline, while those who were fresh enough to train enjoyed a small sided scrimmage to small goals and ended with a scrimmage to full-size goals.

Conor Shanosky earns first start

D.C. United homegrown talent Conor Shanosky earned his first MLS regular season start and appearance last Sunday against the Chicago Fire. Shanosky, currently on loan with the Richmond Kickers, impressed at center back in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup against Richmond. The young defender started and played all 120 minutes in the DCU victory over the Kickers.

“It was just good to be out there and be in an MLS environment—just soak it all in,” said Shanosky. “I am disappointed with the loss, but looking at the positives, it’s my first one and I want to be happy with it and proud of it.”

Brand the Brew

D.C. United will be revealing the winning name of D.C. United and D.C. Brau’s Brand the Brew contest on Thursday. The D.C. United marketing team chose defender Dejan Jakovic, midfielder Chris Pontius and defender Ethan White to choose the final name, and we caught it all on tape!

All DCU fans are invited to get the first taste of the beer on Saturday at one of D.C. United’s official viewing parties. More information to come soon on dcunited.com. Make sure to follow @dcunited on Twitter and Like us on Facebook so you don’t miss the announcement of the winning name!

Nyassi to face New England

Sainey Nyassi, D.C. United’s most recent signing, came to D.C. from the New England Revolution just last month. The talented winger made his MLS regular season debut for the Black-and-Red on Sunday night after a strong showing against Richmond in the Open Cup. Nyassi entered last match in the 64th minute, trying to help United comeback from a one-goal deficit. If the Gambian international is in the 18-man roster this weekend, he will face his former team.
