Preview: D.C. United at New England Revolution

The Black-and-Red visit the New England Revolution

D.C. United is heading north to take on the New England Revolution tomorrow at 7:30p.m. ET (Comcast SportsNet). The Black-and-Red has yet to face the Revs in 2013, but last season, United finished with a perfect 3-0-0 record against New England.

This year, though, the Revolution is 5-4-4, most recently thrashing the LA Galaxy 5-0. Although New England homegrown star Diego Fagundez notched his fifth goal of the season, each goal last Sunday came from a different player. Saer Sene, Lee Nguyen, Chad Barrett and Kelyn Rowe all added to the score sheet. Rowe, a talented midfielder, had a standout night, registering two assists as well as the fifth goal.

United hasn’t earned three points since March, but there are many positives to highlight. The Black-and-Red has dominated possession almost all of its matches, most recently having 63% of possession against the Fire. Chicago’s first goal came early in the first half. After giving up a free kick, the ball deflected off Nick DeLeon for an own goal. The Black-and-Red battled back, registering eight shots on goal and enjoying most of the possession. United was unable to equalize through 76 minutes, then the newest member of the Fire found the net, marking Mike Magee’s first MLS goal while with Chicago.

DCU is looking ahead optimistically, though. Goalkeeper Bill Hamid is back from his time with the U. S. National Team, and the coaching staff is making player personnel changes, most recently acquiring Vancouver Whitecaps FC defender/midfielder Alain Rochat just yesterday. Although Rochat won’t be available for tomorrow’s game, it shows the Black-and-Red still has plenty of fight left in them. With 21 games left to play, Open Cup games and an international friendly, United has a lot to play for.

D.C. United returns home to RFK next Saturday, June 15 when the Black-and-Red host Toronto FC. Get your tickets now.
