D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid has returned from his time with the United States Men’s National Team. The talented, young star made the USMNT roster for the June 2 friendly against Germany in RFK stadium. Although, the Black-and-Red homegrown talent didn’t feature in the 4-3 victory, he said he always learns a lot when training with the best of the best.

“The biggest thing I learned is just control—control of myself, control of my play,” said Bill Hamid. “Worrying about what I can always do better and from then on, making the necessary changes to play more consistent throughout games and throughout stretches—whether it is a positive stretch or a negative stretch.”

Each time Hamid returns from National Team camp, D.C. United Head Coach Ben Olsen says he is sharper and playing better than ever.

“I think I get a lot out of every time I go to camp,” Hamid answered when asked if he feels the same way. “It is just a fresh perspective…So, when you have an environment where it’s a different perspective, then obviously you get better.”

The young goalkeeper definitely takes advantage of playing with the country’s best players and leaning from new coaches, but the possibility of being named to the final Gold Cup roster is not lost on him.

“I’m so honored to be on that Gold Cup list,” said Hamid. “I have a couple performances, a couple games, where I have to do well. Obviously, I always want to do well, but I feel honored to be on that list.”

To Hamid, being named to the roster means one thing.

“It just means, for me personally, that the hard work pays off.”
