VW Keys to the Match: D.C. United vs Sporting KC
On Sunday night, D.C. United returns to RFK. The Black-and-Red will host Sporting Kansas City in their second matchup against the eastern conference side. United look to take three points from a team who currently sits third in conference standings.
Defend till the end
After fighting their way back into the match last weekend at Dallas, United allowed a late goal for the Hoops resulting in a disappointing loss on the road. Late goals must be avoided at RFK, where the advantage favors the home side.
Take advantage of an incomplete roster
With the recent trade of midfielder Bobby Convey, and the yellow card accumulation suspensions issued to Aurelien Collin and Oriol Rosell, Sporting will be without three regular contributors. Collin and Rosell have notched three goals and two assists thus far in 2013, while Convey, who started his professional career with the Black-and-Red in 2000, netted one goal against DCU at the Disney Pro Soccer Classic during preseason. United should look to take advantage of these missing pieces in the attacking half of the pitch on Sunday.
Set piece setup
In its last three matches, D.C. United has given up 57 set piece opportunities (corner kicks, fouls, offsides). DCU will need to mark up tight and maintain complete focus to avoid allowing a goal scoring chance for Kansas City.
