D.C. United Training Notes
In an uncommon Saturday morning training session at RFK Stadium, D.C. United made its final preparations for a matchup tomorrow night at 5:00 p.m. with the Philadelphia Union. Training was quick, as the team moved through a thorough warm-up, possession games, and formation work. As the end of training neared the end, forwards and midfielders were put through extensive finishing drills that those watching enjoyed.
Rare opportunity for season ticket holders
Today, season ticket holders had the rare opportunity to take in a training session the day before a game – one of the many great benefits of being a STH (more information here). The Black-and-Red trained to cheers and chants at times, as supporters might have had a glimpse into Head Coach Ben Olsen’s starting XI tomorrow.
Will Townsend make the 18-man roster?
D.C. United striker Casey Townsend, who is currently on loan with the Richmond Kickers and scoring goals (two in two games with the Kickers), remained in D.C. this weekend ahead of its Sunday match with Philadelphia. While Townsend trained with the club today, it still remains unclear as to whether Head Coach Ben Olsen will recall the young striker and former University of Maryland product for tomorrow night’s matchup against the Union (tickets still available). Will he make the 18-man roster? Only time will tell.
Stand up for DC
Whether it’s the National’s Gio Gonzalez taking in a United game, Marcelo Saragosa, Bill Hamid, and James Riley hanging with the Wizards’ Nene, or DeRo showing former Redskins great Lorenzo Alexander around at the home opener, local athletes love to get out and support each other. Tonight, you might be able to spot a few of the regulars, like Brandon McDonald, out at the Washington Spirit’s game against the Western NY Flash. If you do, give us and the Washington Spirit (@WashSpirit) a shout on Twitter!
