Wednesday Training Notes
While people back in D.C. braved the cold temperatures, the Black-and-Red squad had one training session today under the warm summer sun before being given the afternoon off to recover after a grueling first few days of pre-season.
The team started with small possession games aimed at developing the strong relationships that were built last year amongst the very young squad. Passing, vision, sharpness and communications were all facets of the game that were continually harped on by Head Coach Ben Olsen and Assistants Chad Ashton and Josh Wolff.
Shortly after an intense start to training, the team broke into an 11 v 11 scrimmage for the first time of the year. The two teams played in a condensed area, from 18-yard box to 18-yard box. While there was some rust, any onlooker could definitely see that many of the building blocks that were put in place last year remained strong and ready to add new pieces.
The session ended with a brief cool-down before hitting the showers, ice baths, and lunch at the IMG Academy. After a physically grueling few days, some welcomed the warm Florida sun at the pool this afternoon for a bit of relaxation and recovery.
Trialist Deigo Restrepo no longer with United
Today, trialist and UVA standout, Diego Restrepo departed training camp. Diego will soon be on trail with another Major League Soccer club.
