United participates in charitable Thanksgiving meal preparation
As part of United's 10 Days of Giving initiative, team President and CEO Kevin Payne, alongside midfielder Lance Rozeboom joined DC Mayor Vincent Gray at Food & Friends to help pack 3,500 Thanksgiving Meals.
Mayor Gray, Payne, and Rozeboom joined a large staff of volunteers to divide more than 9,800 pounds of turkey, 1,050 pounds of roasted potatoes, and 780 pounds of green beans into meals that will feed up to four individuals. The meals prepared by the group today will be hand delivered to over 3,500 DC residents living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, or another life-challenging illness and their family. Food & Friends will donate an additional 60 turkeys to children and their families served by Health Services for Children with Special Needs Inc. (HSCSN).
"Although our season recently ended, it is very important for us to continue to serve the community," said D.C. United Director of Community Relations Aprile Pritchet. "Food and Friends is such a wonderful organization! It has become a tradition for D.C. United to volunteer there during the holiday season."
Food & Friends is a local non-profit organization dedicated to delivering meals, groceries, and nutrition counseling to DC residents living with life-challenging illnesses.
