Dwayne De Rosario wins Player of the Week
D.C. United announced today that midfielder/forward Dwayne De Rosario was selected by the North American Soccer Reporters as MLS Player of the Week. De Rosario earned the honor after strong performances against the Colorado Rapids, where he opened up the scoring in a 2-0 shutout, and his former club Toronto FC, where he netted two in a 3-1 victory. The three goals were De Rosario’s 96th, 97th and 98th and is now two tallies away from his 100th MLS goal.
This is the 10th time De Rosario has had this honor, putting him in a four-way tie for third-most Player of the Week honors in MLS history with Edson Buddle, Cobi Jones and Ante Razov. De Rosario earned the honor three times in 2011, all while with D.C. United.
De Rosario, the 2011 MLS MVP, scored the opening tally in both of D.C. United’s wins this week. He scored the first goal of United’s shutout win against Colorado in the 25th minute. Just three days later, the first of De Rosario’s two strikes against Toronto FC came in the opening minute (55 seconds in) and is the third fastest goal in club history. His second tally of the match came on a Chris Korb cross, where he buried the shot past an outstretched Toronto FC goalkeeper.
The Major League Soccer Player of the Week is selected each week of the MLS regular season by a panel of journalists from The North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
