United Academy in 2010 Future Champions Tourney

In mid-December, D.C. United’s Academy faces some of the biggest names in world football at the 2010 Future Champions Tournament in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. A Black-and-Red U-17 side will compete against youth teams from FC Barcelona, Corinthians, Boca Juniors, Paris Saint-Germain, Club America, Cruzeiro, and others. This unique tournament will take place from December 12 through December 19 in downtown Belo Horizonte - one of the host cities for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Last week at SOCCEREX in Rio de Janeiro, the four groups for the tournament were selected. United will compete in Group D alongside youth clubs from French side Paris Saint-Germain and Rio-based Vasco de Gama. A full list of the groups is featured below. United is the only American side in the competition.

Atletico Mineiro (Brazil) - CF Universidad (Chile) - Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa)

Group B

Cruzeiro (Brazil) - CA Penarol (Uruguay) - FC Barcleona (Spain)

Group C

Corinthians (Brazil) - Club America (Mexico) - Everton (England)
