Post-match quotes: D.C. United 0 - Chicago Fire 0

MLS 2010 QUOTESHEET

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2010 – D.C. UNITED 0, CHICAGO FIRE 0

D.C. United Interim Head Coach Ben Olsen

On the match:
“I think a tie was the appropriate result today. Both teams had some chances and both keepers came up with some saves. Overall it’s a good result for us. If you look at the last three away games, that’s seven points in three tough places to play. Looking at it that way, I am proud of the guys. It’s always nice to get a clean sheet. We had a chance or two to sneak the win but we didn’t though we are happy with the tie.”

On Troy Perkin’s performance:
“That’s the Troy we know. We expect that from him. Troy giving us those types of games will help us out all season.”

On Jed Zayner’s ankle injury:
“It’s sprained, pretty bad. He twisted the one and twisted the other. Give him credit, the guy is tough. Very pleased with the way he’s come to this team and put his stamp on it.”

On honoring Brian McBride’s career achievements:
“Rightfully so, Brian has been one of the best in the history of US soccer. Not many people in this country have had a career like Brian’s. He succeeded not only domestically, internationally but also on the global stage going to several World Cups and being a big part of those. He’s a great teammate and it’s nice to see him up top because you knew he was a guy who worked his tail off. You knew what you were getting and I wish him all the best.”

D.C. United Goalkeeper Troy Perkins

On his four saves:
“On the road it’s what you have to do. The guys in front of me worked their butts off and they’re cramping up and fighting through a lot of pain and it’s something at the beginning of the season I wasn’t doing. It’s my job to do, so there it is.”

On keeping clean sheet on the road:
“I think it’s great for us. Obviously you want to win but at this point in the season you’re still fighting and getting a result, a point away from home. It’s something we can start building on and take into next season.”

D.C. United Defender Jed Zayner

On the match:
“It was a battle. Chicago is a good team and it was a battle of a game. It’s one of those games where at the end of the day a tie is good for both teams. Both teams worked hard and we both deserved to win. We would have liked to play the spoiler but again Chicago played a great game so sometimes it all adds up to us.”

On how the team is looking to finish the season:
“For me, get and stay healthy. Our team is building confidence for next year right now and we’re working on the little things and as long as we work on the little things it’ll translate to next year. I think the coaches are pondering the best culture of our team and create a culture of winning and you have to put the right personnel around that. I think that’s the one thing that they are trying to figure out and we’re going to trust them they’re going to do that and we’re going to try to get the guys on board that come in that are new.”
