D.C. United to present Pelada at the Avalon Theatre

Award-winning soccer documentary makes its D.C. debut

Washington,D.C. (July 13, 2010) – D.C. United will present a screening of theaward-winning soccer documentary Pelada
at the Avalon Theatre at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27.  Peladapremiered at the SXSW film festival and has been featured at festivals acrossthe world.  The event at the Avalonwill mark the film’s debut in Washington, D.C., and following the screeningthere will be a question and answer session with producer/director Ryan White. 

Ticketsfor the screening are $15 and will benefit United for D.C., the charitable arm of D.C. United.

Peladafollows twoformer college soccer players as they travel through 25 countries, playing inpick-up games with everyone from Bolivian prisoners to Kenyan moonshinebrewers. The film takes its name from the Portuguese word for pick-up soccer: pelada, which literally means “naked” –the game stripped down to its core.
