I want to think you for all the questions and your time. We have a game on Tuesday, so please come support us in the Open Cup and bring your vuvuzelas! (laughs) Thanks for the support!
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 2:07 pm
What is your main language in South Africa? I have a friend from there (she speaks English) and was wondering if it was the same everywhere or did different areas have different languages.
Also, do you have any tickets to the World Cup? Mind to share a few? (hahaha)
From Aaron McCollum - 1:49 pm
There are 11 official languages just in South Africa and you have to know english, of course. Everyone speaks English, but I speak about six - all South African languages: Zulu, Sotho, English, of course, Afrikans, Xhosa and Tswana.
I don't have any tickets - I wish I did!
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 2:05 pm
What is your favortie Barra Brava chant?
From Matt - 1:52 pm
I don't know the names - la la la la la la la la la la! I like that one. I don't know what it's called. Every time I hear that song I just want to step on the field. It's crazy when you see the stands going up and down. It's funny, because my brother knows all the songs because he was down with the fans. He probably doesn't know the names of them either (laughs).
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 2:01 pm
what do you think usa uspset vs. spain????
From george - 1:42 pm
The upset just shows that soccer is a game of opportunities - it's a 50-50 game, you have to go out there and do it. It's not a newspaper game. You read the newspaper and it says "Spain is going to win this game. They haven't lost in 30-plus games," but the U.S. won and killed their streak.
I hope South Africa can do the same and pull out a win today against Brazil.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:59 pm
With DCU being defending champions of the US Open Cup, and making it to the round of 16 this year, what do you think that you and the rest of the team must do to defend their title?
From Evan - 1:37 pm
We just have to go out there and play our soccer - which is D.C. united soccer. We can't take teams lightly. Next Tuesday we play a PDL team [ed. note: a 4th division team] and we need to go out there and show them they don't belong here with us.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:58 pm
Boyzzz, with Tino and Dejan going to be out on National Team Duty, are there players who are ready to step up and fill their spaces?
From Matt - 1:34 pm
I don't know about the other players, but I'm ready.
I do think everyone is ready, beacuse a lot of the guys who haven't been playing, we want to show the coaches and the fans that we belong here, that we can go out and perform. They're hungry to play, to get on the field. Plus, I think it's a good opportunity to show we have more players who can come in and contribute.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:56 pm
What's up with all of the horns at the Confederations Cup games in South Africa?
From blowhard - 1:33 pm
It's a South African thing, man - in South Africa when we hit those stands we get excited and ready, because we know it's about to go down. In the South African language Zulu, they're called "vuvuzela." They're pretty much at every game - local games even. I was talking to my friend on the phone when South Africa went through and I could hear them in the background. Even high school games have vuvuzelas. Anything we celebrate in South Africa, ther'es going to be a vuvzela pretty much.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:55 pm
How did you get the name "Boyzzz"?
From Evan - 1:27 pm
That name, I got it when I was little from one of my dad's friends. He was comparing me to this guy in South Africa who used to play - it's not like he played pro or anything, he was just a guy who played in the streets - but, they thought I played like him so they said "let's call him Boyzzz" and it got stuck with me. I don't think anyone knows my real name. You don't if you don't read stuff about me.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:52 pm
your speed is always a great help on the pitch. how do you train to stay fit?
From UMD_Fan - 1:18 pm
My speed is just God-given, it's not like something where I can train to be fast - it's something I was born with. I work hard in practice, lift weights and try and get faster, quicker and stronger.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:50 pm
Why did you decide to return to play in South Africa in 2007? And why did you decide to return to the US in 2008?
From KC - 12:47 pm
The reason I went to South Africa was because my visa had expired, so I had to back to South Africa. I trained in an academy there with one of my old coaches, staying fit. Then somehow I got a call from one of my teammates in Charleston, who was in Pittsburgh, and he asked me to come to the states and said he would take care of my visa - so I did that and went from Pittsburgh to DC. If it weren't for him - Jason Kutney - I wouldn't be here right now.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:49 pm
Boyzz, I love your movement around the pitch; very unique to our club. With the league heating up at the half of the season, what has been the most exciting/challenging aspects of playing for United thus far? Your starts are just around the corner. The goals will come, we love having you here and I will cheer for you in Columbus with the Barras! UP UNITED!!!!!!!!!
From chad - 11:32 am
The thing I was most excited for was when we went to Champions League last year, because we got to see how other teams defend, how they treat the games - that was my best moment since I've been in DC.
Also, winning the game in New York this year - I was shooting it (laughs), but the ball was there and Pontius got to it and we won the game.
But, I'm also looking forward to U.S. Open Cup - we won it last year, but I wasn't on the field yet. When I got here, that's when they played the final, so I'm looking forward to winning it again this year.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:47 pm
I just wanted to tell you that I think you have many moments of brilliance and I look forward to seeing you make a big impact in the upcoming months during the tightly packed schedule.
From James F - 11:05 am
Well, thanks a lot - I appreciate that.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:44 pm
After seeing a lot of the Confed. Cup, and seeing what South Africa has to offer when do you expect to get a call up for the NT? Not to take away from the players that they have but I think that you would and more pace and diversity on a team that looks to be decent to solid. Also, You told me last season that you would get me one of your jerseys after a game, then proceeded to give it to a young kid, which is perfect. I am always in favor of getting younger folks interested, but you told me you would get me next game and I still haven't seen the jersey. You can usually find me in La Barra Brava. Not hard to spot, the guy with his shirt off with the broken angel wings tattooed on my back.
From Justin - 11:05 am
I'm not really expecting to get a call-up, because right now I'm not even in the starting line-up here in DC, so it's going to be a while before that happens. But, if the opportunity comes, I'd grab it with both hands - I'd grab it like a baton and run with it.
As for the jersey - I'm caught up in the moment after a game, I don't know who is who. The first person I come into contact with usually gets the jersey. Plus, I do it for the kids. I'm sorry I missed you and maybe I'll get you next time.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:44 pm
Are you at all related to the great South African defender DR. Kumalo?
From ELhadji - 10:59 am
He's not a defender, first of all, but no I'm not related. I know he is, because he's a South African legened. There was an article in South Africa about him playing here in the states and they compared me and him and he was congratulating me on playing here. They made a big deal out of it because they thought I was related to him - but, no, not really.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:41 pm
Hi! :) Mr.Khumalo what is it like to play for DC. If you could change how the jersey looked what would it be like? :)
From geshan pathirana - 10:21 am
For me, it's a great thing for me to play for DC. There's a lot of history in DC. United is america's soccer team - like the Dallas Cowboys are in football.
I don't think I would change anything about the jersey - we're sponsored by Volkswagen, so we've got to keep that. I really like the colors, because they remind of my favorite team - the Orlando Pirates - from when I was younger, because they wear black and white, too.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:39 pm
Boyzzz,
All your photos show how intense you are. What do you do to help you keep this intensity, if you come off the bench or start? What is your strongest position?
From Dan Cole - 2:07 pm
I just like going out there and playing hard - I like winning, so that's how I keep my intensity. I guess my facial expression explains everything, because I'm a hard worker on and off the field. I stay focused and when I'm given an opportunity to start I just go out and do what's best for the team.
I play right wing, but I can also play as a striker or attacking midfield, but of course I'm more offensive-minded and I think right wing is my best position - I like taking people on.
From Boyzzz Khumalo - 1:36 pm
Boyzzz,
D.C. United is doing very well this season, being in first place do you think the team can maintain their lead and maybe even stretch their lead and win another Championship? And how can you contribute as a player to accomplish this?
From Dan Cole - 2:05 pm
It's a good thing that we are on top of the table, but the team needs to stay healthy so we can maintain being number one - injuries hurt the team, so we need to stay healthy and maintain our spot in the league. As for myself, I think I just need to do my work in practice every day and when I'm given the opportunity to play in a game to go and give my best and when I'm not playing I need to motivate the guys. When I'm not playing, I need to work hard in training and make the defenders work hard.
I want to think you for all the questions and your time. We have a game on Tuesday, so please come support us in the Open Cup and bring your vuvuzelas! (laughs) Thanks for the support!
