Virginia Rush rallied from an early deficit to pick up a 2-1 win over the Richmond Strikers at Striker Park Saturday in U.S. Soccer Development Academy Under-15/16 play on Saturday.

Gil Topaz tallied his third goal of the season in the 18th minute for Strikers, but Rush equalized nine minutes later on a goal from David Kotarides off a corner. It was Kotarides’ first goal of the season.

Freestate Soccer Alliance's U-14, U-15 and U-18 teams all posted wins against Richmond Strikers this weekend in Elite Clubs National League play.

Freestate's U-14s won 6-2, while its U-15s and U-18s each won 4-0 over the Strikers.

The Strikers' U-14 team rallied Sunday for a 2-0 win over Bethesda SC. That was Bethesda SC's only loss on the weekend, as its U-15s defeated the Strikers 3-0, the U-16s tied the Strikers 1-1 and the U-18s defeated the Strikers, 2-0.

Annandale Premier Cup releases acceptance list for 2012 edition

Billed as one of the top tournaments in Virginia and on the East Coast, the Annandale Premier Cup has announced its boys’ acceptance list with a strong field of teams set to come to Northern Virginia for the March 9-11 tournament.

The tournament will feature 275 teams from U-11 to U-19, with those teams coming from 17 states, Canada and Ireland. All games will be played on synthetic turf fields.

U-11 through U-15 teams will play on March 10-11, while U-16, U-17, U-19 and Pre-Academy teams will play on March 9-11.

D.C. United Academy today announced that ten of its U-18 players have committed to play soccer at eight different universities for the 2012 fall season. The list includes commitments to perennial collegiate powerhouses Wake Forest University and the University of Virginia, among others.

More than three years removed from a concussion that ended his professional soccer career, Taylor Twellman's symptoms have yet to go away.

“Since August 30, 2008, no day has ever been the same,” Twellman told National Soccer Wire after he gave a sobering presentation on concussion awareness at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention last week. “The one thing that I’ve done is that I haven’t worked out in two years to try and let my brain just heal itself, so that’s done well."

Five local players named to ECNL All-Event Teams from Sanford, Fla. event

The Elite Clubs National League announced the All-Event Teams from the second event in the 2011-2012 ECNL National Showcase Event Series, which was held December 28-30, 2011 in Sanford, FL. Five local players representing Freestate SA, McLean, Virginia Rush and FC Virginia were named to the all-star squads.

A total of 150 teams from 47 ECNL Member Clubs participated in the event, with games taking place at facilities across Seminole County, including the Seminole Soccer Complex, Sylvan Lakes Park, and Central Winds Park.
