Ethan White signs
D.C. United announced today the club has signed 19-year-old Academy product Ethan White. The defender becomes the fourth Homegrown player on United’s roster, joining 2010 MLS Rookie of the Year Andy Najar, goalkeeper Bill Hamid, and midfielder Conor Shanosky. White progressed from United’s Academy to the University of Maryland, where he played the past two seasons, starting 43 matches during that period.
D.C. United acquires 2011 MLS SuperDraft selection from New York
Washington, D.C. (September 16, 2010) - D.C. United announced today the club has acquired a conditional 2011 second round MLS SuperDraft selection from the New York Red Bulls in exchange for defender Carey Talley. Talley leaves United after rejoining the club on March 26, 2010. The 34-year-old began his MLS career with the Black-and-Red in 1998, capturing the 1999 MLS Cup before initially departing Washington in 2001.
D.C. United signs Brazilian midfielder Junior Carreiro
Washington, D.C. (September 15, 2010) - D.C. United announced today the club has signed 19-year-old Brazilian midfielder Junior Carreiro. The attacking player has been training with the Black-and-Red for majority of 2010 after joining United as a guest player in March. Carreiro will be available for selection pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.
D.C. United signs Spanish-born winger Carlos Varela
Washington, D.C. (September 14, 2010) - D.C. United announced today the club has signed Spanish-born winger Carlos Varela, who began a trial with the club on August 24. The midfielder turns 33 years old on September 15 and is an 18-year veteran of the Swiss Super League. Varela will be available for selection pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.
Conor Shanosky signs with first team
Washington, D.C. (August 16, 2010) − D.C. United announced today the club has signed Academy defensive midfielder Conor Shanosky. The 18-year-old standout becomes the third player to make the jump from United’s Academy to the senior squad, following midfielder Andy Najar and goalkeeper Bill Hamid. Shanosky will train with United’s first team, however, he will not be eligible for selection until the 2011 season. Shanosky and members of United’s technical staff will be available for comment following tomorrow’s training session.

D.C. United announced today the club has signed Academy midfielder/forward Andy Najar to a Generation adidas contract to join the first team. The 17-year-old standout is the second player to sign with the first team directly from United’s Academy, joining goalkeeper Bill Hamid who signed with the first team in September of last year.

D.C. United announced today the club has signed Academy goalkeeper Abdul “Bill” Hamid to a Generation adidas contract with the first team. Hamid is the first player to sign with the first team directly from United’s academy youth system.
D.C. United releases Marcelo Gallardo
Washington, D.C. (January 30, 2009) – D.C. United announced today midfielder Marcelo Gallardo has been granted a release from his contract with the club. The Argentine midfielder requested the release, citing his desire to continue his playing career in his home country. Last season, Gallardo scored four goals and recorded three assists in League play, though injuries limited him to just 15 League games (14 starts).
D.C. United re-signs Devon McTavish
Washington, D.C. (January 28, 2009) – D.C. United announced today the club has re-signed defender Devon McTavish. In a season that saw a host of lineup changes from the previous year, McTavish was one of the most versatile players on the squad, playing 26 games and tallying a goal and four assists. Per team and League policy, terms of the agreement were not released.
D.C. United to loan out Gonzalo Peralta
Washington, D.C. (January 22, 2009) – D.C. United announced today the club is set to loan defender Gonzalo Peralta to Union Sante Fe of the Argentine Second Division. Due to the loan, the 28-year old will not return to United for the 2009 season. Per club and League policy, terms of the loan were not disclosed.
