D.C. United Academy played MLS rivals Philadelphia Union on Sunday, May 5 at Spingarn High School, going 1-1-1 against the Union in three physical matchups.
D.C. United announced today that Craig Stouffer has been named the club’s Director of Communications. In addition to his ongoing role as the team spokesperson for the proposed stadium plan at Buzzard Point, Stouffer will oversee all of the club’s communications and media relations activities.
D.C. United and Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic have announced the addition of two D.C. United matches to its previously announced schedule of live Black-and-Red coverage this season: United at Real Salt Lake on Aug. 9 at 10 p.m. and against the Colorado Rapids on Aug. 17 at 8 p.m.
UniteDC coalition grows to more than 50 community organizations and businesses, more than 5,000 D.C. residents
The grassroots movement to support a proposed D.C. United stadium at Buzzard Point and associated District of Columbia development continues to expand and grow. Over 50 local community organizations and businesses have joined the UniteDC coalition in addition to the more than 5,000 District residents across all eight wards of the District who have sent emails to the Mayor and City Council to support the new stadium.
D.C. United today announced that midfielder Chris Pontius has undergone surgery on his left hamstring. Dr. Michael Gerhardt of Santa Monica Orthopaedics, and team physician for U.S. Soccer’s Men’s National Team, performed the surgery in Santa Monica, Calif. He is expected to miss 4-6 months.
On Sunday, April 13, the U-14s beat the Virginia Rush 3-0. SahrFelix Sandy (Woodbridge, Va.; Prince William Soccer Inc.) put United on the score sheet in the 40th minute to give them the 1-0 lead going into halftime. Andres Villanueva (Woodbridge, Va.; Prince William Soccer Inc.) and Alexis Cerritos (Beltsville, Md.; Cerritos Academy) both added goals in the second half for the 3-0 win. Goalkeeper Kyle Frye kept a clean sheet for the U-14s.
D.C. United today announced that it has rescheduled the open training session that was postponed earlier this month due to inclement weather. Players and coaching staff will practice Monday, April 28, at Cardozo Education Campus in Northwest Washington, D.C., from 3:30-5:30 p.m. EST. Admission is free to the general public.
The D.C. United U-23 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) team has announced three tryout dates. The team will feature top collegiate, international and domestic players from around the D.C. area, and will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Conference in the NPSL. The team will train three times a week, May-July, and have one game every weekend.
